When I was single and in my late 20’s, I joined a local Rotoract Club whose major fund raising activity was a yearly square dance. The caller was the late Tom McGrath and I found this a great way to meet new people. Later, after meeting, my wife Georgina at work, we followed Tom around various Sydney suburbs attending his Saturday “one night stands”.
We went to Greenwich Swingers at Artarmon and danced of a Friday night when work commitments and bringing up a young family allowed. In 2007 Andy Lown held beginners classes at Artarmon and we learnt properly.
We later meet Ted Thomas and found out about Vickie & Steve Deans’ dance of a Tuesday night at Beecroft. In 2009 we attended our 1st NSW State Convention at Wellington. Our 1st National Convention was at Niagara Park NSW in 2013.
We have met many people through Square Dancing and some have become life time friends.
