Square Dance Caller & Cuer SA

Les began dancing in 1983.  In 1986  he took up the chance to call at an amateur callers night and has been calling regularly ever since (34 years).

Les called and cued  for several years in Melbourne, and in 1995 moved to Adelaide to live with his wife Anne.

Together (1995) they started the Sunset Twirlers Dance Club which is now approaching its 25th Birthday.  The club dances weekly mainstream and plus programs as well as round dancing up to phase 6.

Les has received several awards including:

  • Callerlab Quarter Century Award 2011;

  • Australian Callers Federation Silver Microphone 2013;

  • Life Membership of the South Australian Round Dance Association 2006

  • Life Membership South Australian Square Dance Society 2018

Les has also served on various State and National and International committees including:

  • Secretary/Treasurer 1998 Callerlab Minilab International Callers Conference

  • Roundalab International Association of Round Dance Teachers, chair of the Phase 1 & 2 Standards Committee;

  • Australian Callers Federation, Board Member & Publicity Officer;

  • Australian Round Dance Association, Treasurer;

  • South Australian Callers Association, President, Secretary & Treasurer;

  • South Australian Square Dance Society representing SACA, SARDA & Sunset Twirlers;

  • South Australian Round Dance Association President, Treasurer & Publicity Officer;

  • Three National Square Dance Convention Committees including 1998 Caller Manager, 2007 & 2015 Round Dance Liaison/Programming, and is serving again on the 2022 committee

  • Numerous State Square Dance Convention Committees programming both Squares & Rounds.
